PROFILE OF Andreas Mittrowann

Andreas is owner and founder of "nachvorndenken> Die Strategieberatung" (Thinking Ahead - the Strategy Consulting Company). His firm is focussing on strategy building, planning for the future and space programming for libraries.

Prior to his current role Andreas served as Deputy Vice President of the Public Libraries Division for the Bertelsmann Foundation and was Project Director in several programs, including “The German Internet Library”, “Public Library and School” and the “International Network of Public Libraries”. His activities included workshops and presentations in Jerusalem, Singapore, Phoenix (AZ), Barcelona, Brussels, Lyon, Iceland and Oxford as well as strategy workshops for a range of German libraries.

In the following Andreas was Librarian Director at ekz.bibliotheksservice GmbH, Germany's largest library supplier. He oversaw corporate communications and marketing, consulting, librarian services as well as knowledge management.

CaREER

Andreas started his professional career as Librarian and IT-Coordinator at the public libraries of Gütersloh and Münster. From 2001 – 2003 he served as member of the Advisory Board of the EU-project “PULMAN – Public Libraries Mobilising Advanced Networks”. 

From 2008 to 2018, Andreas was a member of the Advisory Boards of the Library and Information Degree Program at Stuttgart Media University and the Information Department of Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. As a delegate of BID, Germany’s umbrella organisation of library associations, he served as a jury member for the German Library of the Year Award. 

Andreas has written several articles on educational cooperations, strategic management, the future of libraries, space programming and many more topics. He is one of the editors of “Bibliotheken strategisch steuern : Projekte, Konzepte, Perspektiven” [Strategic Steering of Libraries: Projects, Concepts, Perspectives] and acted as creator and host of many conferences.
